Quarantine Failures

Daniel Andrews has not explained why hotel quarantine failed.

Premier,

7 out of 8 states and territories were able to manage the hotel quarantine program. Your mismanagement of the hotel quarantine program has been devastating, resulting in us, the Victorian people being:

  • locked up in our homes and restricted movement to a 5km radius, and only allowed to exercise once a day for up to an hour.
  • blocked from working and made us home school our children.
  • putting our small businesses at risk, killing our livelihoods
  • prompted other states to close their borders, making us (Victorians) pariahs.

You have not explained how this happened in Victoria, and we think you owe us some answers.

By your own admission, this hotel quarantine fiasco is the cause of the second wave of COVID-19 infections, saying there had been ‘…unacceptable infection control breaches in hotel quarantine.’ Every state that accepted the offer to use ADF assistance has not had one single transmission of this virus from hotel quarantine. You refused to accept National Cabinet advice to use Police and/or ADF personnel to manage hotel quarantine.

We think you should return to a Parliamentary Committee hearing to answer these questions:

  1. Why did your government refuse the federal government's offer of defence personnel to manage hotel quarantine from March?
  2. Why did your government decide to employ untrained private security firms to run hotel quarantine?
  3. Why did Andrew Crisp request and then cancel support from the defence forces in June?
  4. Which Minister is responsible for bungling the hotel quarantine program? Mikakos, Pakula or Neville?
  5. Why do you refuse to take responsibility for the carnage that has been caused in this second wave of coronavirus, that is a direct result of the hotel quarantine fiasco?
